Handmade Book

A book is a garden carried in the pocket.
  Arabian Proverb

Now is the perfect time to celebrate the handmade book. As we witness the transition from page to screen, it is both instructive and comforting to look at the history of the handmade book through time and across cultures, from the clay tablets of Mesopotamia to books of various forms and materials being made by artists today. We'll see books made from palm leaves and bark, books that are rolled and folded, sewn and tied, books from the past and books from the present. We'll close by making a simple book with recycled paper. No matter what happens to the world of published book, you'll always be able to hold a handmade book of your own making in your hand.
